How To Install pbzip2 on Fedora 34

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install pbzip2 on Fedora 34.

What is pbzip2

PBZIP2 is a parallel implementation of the bzip2 block-sorting file compressor that uses pthreads and achieves near-linear speedup on SMP machines. The output of this version is fully compatible with bzip2 v1.0.2 or newer (ie decompressed with bzip2).

We can use yum or dnf to install pbzip2 on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install pbzip2.

Install pbzip2 on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install pbzip2 using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install pbzip2

Install pbzip2 on Fedora 34 Using yum

How To Uninstall pbzip2 on Fedora 34

To uninstall only the pbzip2 package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove pbzip2
