How To Install pam_abl on Fedora 34

pam_abl is A Pluggable Authentication Module (PAM) for auto blacklisting

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install pam_abl on Fedora 34.

What is pam_abl

Provides auto blacklisting of hosts and users responsible for repeated failed authentication attempts. Generally configured so that blacklisted users still see normal login prompts but are guaranteed to fail to authenticate. A command line tool allows to query or purge the databases used by the pam_abl module.

We can use yum or dnf to install pam_abl on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install pam_abl.

Install pam_abl on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install pam_abl using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install pam_abl

Install pam_abl on Fedora 34 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

How To Uninstall pam_abl on Fedora 34

To uninstall only the pam_abl package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove pam_abl
