In this tutorial we learn how to install otf2bdf on Fedora 34.

What is otf2bdf

otf2bdf is a command line utility that uses the FreeType 2 font rendering library to generate BDF bitmap fonts from OpenType outline fonts at different sizes and resolutions. This program is essentially the same as the ttf2bdf program except that it uses FreeType 2., not FreeType 1., has some bug fixes, and includes a new command line parameter to print out the available encoding tables in the font.

We can use yum or dnf to install otf2bdf on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install otf2bdf.

Install otf2bdf on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install otf2bdf using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install otf2bdf
