Logrotate allows for the automatic rotation compression, removal and mailing of log files. Logrotate can be set to handle a log file daily, weekly, monthly or when the log file gets to a certain size. Install the logrotate package if you need a utility to deal with the log files on your system.

We can use yum or dnf to install logrotate on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install logrotate.

Install logrotate on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install logrotate using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install logrotate

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

How To Uninstall logrotate on Fedora 34

To uninstall only the logrotate package we can use the following command:
