In this tutorial we learn how to install gdcm on Fedora 34.

What is `gdcm`

Grassroots DiCoM (GDCM) is a C++ library for DICOM medical files. It supports ACR-NEMA version 1 and 2 (huffman compression is not supported), RAW, JPEG, JPEG 2000, JPEG-LS, RLE and deflated transfer syntax. It comes with a super fast scanner implementation to quickly scan hundreds of DICOM files. It supports SCU network operations (C-ECHO, C-FIND, C-STORE, C-MOVE). PS 3.3 & 3.6 are distributed as XML files. We can use yum or dnf to install gdcm on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install gdcm.

Install gdcm on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

Fedora 34 - x86_64                               20 kB/s | 6.6 kB     00:00

After updating yum database, We can install gdcm using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install gdcm

Install gdcm on Fedora 34 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

How To Uninstall gdcm on Fedora 34

To uninstall only the gdcm package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove gdcm
