What is g10k

g10k is:

g10k provides a general purpose toolset for deploying Puppet environments and modules. It implements the Puppetfile format and provides a native implementation of Puppet dynamic environments. g10k is a rewrite of puppetlabs/r10k in Go with additional optimizations such as:

  • caching support
  • distinct SSH keys for each source
  • parallel cloning and checkout
  • enhanced Puppetfile options It only supports Forge modules and Git repositories.

There are three methods to install g10k on Debian 11. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install g10k Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install g10k using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install g10k

How To Uninstall g10k on Debian 11

To uninstall only the g10k package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove g10k

To uninstall g10k and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove g10k

To remove g10k configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge g10k
