How To Install fityk on Debian 11
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install fityk on Debian 11.
What is fityk
fityk is:
Fityk is a flexible and portable program for nonlinear fitting of analytical functions (especially peak-shaped) to data (usually experimental data). In other words, for nonlinear peak separation and analysis.
It was developed for analyzing diffraction patterns, but can be also used in other fields, since concepts and operations specific for crystallography are separated from the rest of the program.
Fityk offers various nonlinear fitting methods, subtracting background, calibrating data, easy placement of peaks and changing peak parameters, automation of common tasks with scripts, and much more. The main advantage of the program is flexibility - parameters of peaks can be arbitrarily bound to each other, eg. the width of a peak can be an independent variable, can be the same as the width of another peak or can be given by a complicated - common to all peaks - formula.
libjs-sphinxdoc is necessary for the Javascript stuff in the documentation.
There are three methods to install fityk on Debian 11. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install fityk Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install fityk using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install fityk

After updating apt database, We can install fityk using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install fityk
Install fityk Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install fityk using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install fityk
How To Uninstall fityk on Debian 11
To uninstall only the fityk package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove fityk
Uninstall fityk And Its Dependencies
To uninstall fityk and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove fityk
Remove fityk Configurations and Data
To remove fityk configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge fityk
Remove fityk configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
