How To Install movim on Debian 10
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install movim on Debian 10.
What is movim
movim is:
Movim is a decentralized social network, written in PHP and HTML5 and based on the XMPP standard protocol.
Movim is a web-based Jabber (XMPP) client, which also exposes a social network functionality using standards-conformant PubSub functionality. It supports microblogging (both ??private?? posts, i.e. shown only to one??s Jabber contacts, and ??public?? ones, which are indeed publicly available, including an RSS feed and a web interface showing all public blog posts of a user), communities, etc.
Movim is a client, that means it still requires a Jabber/XMPP server to function. https://github.com/movim/movim/wiki#xmpp-servers contains upstream documentation on how to best configure your server to work well with Movim. A Movim installation (??pod??) can allow users of one or multiple Jabber servers to log into that pod; users of other Jabber servers will need to install their own Movim instance.
There are three methods to install movim on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install movim Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install movim using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install movim
Install movim Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install movim using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install movim
Install movim Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install movim using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install movim
How To Uninstall movim on Debian 10
To uninstall only the movim package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove movim
Uninstall movim And Its Dependencies
To uninstall movim and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove movim
Remove movim Configurations and Data
To remove movim configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge movim
Remove movim configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove movim configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge movim
