What is i3

This metapackage installs the i3 window manager (i3-wm), the i3lock screen locker, i3status (for system information) and suckless-tools (for dmenu). These are all the tools you need to use the i3 window manager efficiently.

There are three ways to install i3 on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install i3 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install i3 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install i3

Install i3 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install i3 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install i3

Install i3 Using aptitude

sudo apt-get -y purge i3
