How To Install gpaint on Debian 10
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gpaint on Debian 10.
What is gpaint
gpaint is:
This is gpaint (GNU Paint), a small-scale painting program for GNOME, the GNU Desktop Environment. gpaint does not attempt to compete with GIMP, it is just a simple drawing package based on xpaint, along the lines of ‘Paintbrush’ from a popular non-free operating system.
Currently gpaint has the following features:
- Drawing tools such as ovals, freehand, polygon and text, with fill or shadow for polygons and closed freehand shapes.
- Cut and paste by selecting irregular regions or polygons.
- Preliminary print support using gnome-print.
- Modern, ease-to-use user interface with tool and color palettes.
- Multiple-image editing in a single instance of the program.
- All the image processing features present in xpaint.
There are three methods to install gpaint on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gpaint Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gpaint using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gpaint

After updating apt database, We can install gpaint using apt by running the following command:

Install gpaint Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install gpaint using aptitude by running the following command:

How To Uninstall gpaint on Debian 10
To uninstall only the gpaint package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gpaint
Uninstall gpaint And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gpaint and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gpaint
Remove gpaint Configurations and Data
To remove gpaint configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gpaint
