How To Install gerbera on Debian 10
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gerbera on Debian 10.
What is gerbera
gerbera is:
Gerbera is an UPnP MediaServer with a nice web user interface based on MediaTomb. It allows you to stream your digital media through your home network and listen to/watch it on a variety of UPnP compatible devices.
Gerbera implements the UPnP MediaServer V 1.0 specification that can be found on http://www.upnp.org/. The current implementation focuses on parts that are required by the specification, however Gerbera’s functionality is extended to cover the optional parts of the spec as well.
There are three methods to install gerbera on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gerbera Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gerbera using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gerbera
Install gerbera Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gerbera using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gerbera
Install gerbera Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gerbera using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gerbera
How To Uninstall gerbera on Debian 10
To uninstall only the gerbera package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gerbera
Uninstall gerbera And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gerbera and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gerbera
Remove gerbera Configurations and Data
To remove gerbera configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gerbera
Remove gerbera configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gerbera configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gerbera
