How To Install fastnetmon on Debian 10

In this tutorial we learn how to install fastnetmon
on Debian 10.
What is fastnetmon
fastnetmon is:
FastNetMon is a very high performance distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) detector built on top of multiple packet capture engines: NetFlow, IPFIX, sFLOW.
It can detect hosts in your networks sending or receiving large volumes of packets/bytes/flows per second. It can call an external script to notify you, switch off a server, or blackhole the client.
To enable sFLOW, simply specify IP of the server running FastNetMon and specify (configurable) port 6343. To enable netflow, simply specify IP of the server running FastNetMon and specify (configurable) port 2055.
This package contains the community edition.
There are three methods to install fastnetmon
on Debian 10. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install fastnetmon Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install fastnetmon
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install fastnetmon
Install fastnetmon Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install fastnetmon
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install fastnetmon
Install fastnetmon Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install fastnetmon
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install fastnetmon
How To Uninstall fastnetmon on Debian 10
To uninstall only the fastnetmon
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove fastnetmon
Uninstall fastnetmon And Its Dependencies
To uninstall fastnetmon
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove fastnetmon
Remove fastnetmon Configurations and Data
To remove fastnetmon
configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge fastnetmon
Remove fastnetmon configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove fastnetmon
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge fastnetmon
