In this tutorial we learn how to install yubico-piv-tool on CentOS 8.

What is yubico-piv-tool

The Yubico PIV tool is used for interacting with the Privilege and Identification Card (PIV) applet on a YubiKey. With it you may generate keys on the device, importing keys and certificates, and create certificate requests, and other operations. A shared library and a command-line tool is included.

We can use yum or dnf to install yubico-piv-tool on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install yubico-piv-tool.

Install yubico-piv-tool on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install yubico-piv-tool using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install yubico-piv-tool

How To Uninstall yubico-piv-tool on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the yubico-piv-tool package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove yubico-piv-tool
