Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install whsniff on CentOS 8.

What is whsniff

Whsniff is a command line utility that interfaces TI CC2531 USB dongle with Wireshark for capturing and displaying IEEE 802.15.4 traffic at 2.4 GHz. Whsniff reads the packets from TI CC2531 USB dongle with sniffer_fw_cc2531 firmware, converts to the PCAP format and writes to the standard output.

We can use yum or dnf to install whsniff on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install whsniff.

Install whsniff on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install whsniff using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install whsniff

How To Uninstall whsniff on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the whsniff package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove whsniff
