How To Install upx on CentOS 8

In this tutorial we learn how to install upx on CentOS 8.

What is upx

UPX is a free, portable, extendable, high-performance executable packer for several different executable formats. It achieves an excellent compression ratio and offers very fast decompression. Your executables suffer no memory overhead or other drawbacks.

We can use yum or dnf to install upx on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install upx.

Install upx on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install upx using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install upx

Install upx on CentOS 8 Using yum

How To Uninstall upx on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the upx package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove upx
