How To Install udt on CentOS 8

udt is UDP based Data Transfer Protocol

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install udt on CentOS 8.

What is udt

UDT is a reliable UDP based application level data transport protocol for distributed data intensive applications over wide area high-speed networks. UDT uses UDP to transfer bulk data with its own reliability control and congestion control mechanisms. The new protocol can transfer data at a much higher speed than TCP does. UDT is also a highly configurable framework that can accommodate various congestion control algorithms.

We can use yum or dnf to install udt on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install udt.

Install udt on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install udt using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install udt

Install udt on CentOS 8 Using yum

After updating yum database, We can install udt using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install udt

How To Uninstall udt on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the udt package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove udt
