How To Install tng on CentOS 8

tng is Trajectory Next Generation binary format manipulation library

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install tng on CentOS 8.

What is tng

TRAJNG (Trajectory next generation) is a program library for handling molecular dynamics (MD) trajectories. It can store coordinates, and optionally velocities and the H-matrix. Coordinates and velocities are stored with user-specified precision. In addition, program specific information (text strings) can optionally be stored in the beginning of each file. Atomic labels can also optionally be stored once in the beginning of the file.

We can use yum or dnf to install tng on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install tng.

Install tng on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install tng using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install tng

How To Uninstall tng on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the tng package we can use the following command:
