How To Install tinc on CentOS 8

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install tinc on CentOS 8.

What is tinc

tinc is a Virtual Private Network (VPN) daemon that uses tunnelling and encryption to create a secure private network between hosts on the Internet. Because the tunnel appears to the IP level network code as a normal network device, there is no need to adapt any existing software. This tunnelling allows VPN sites to share information with each other over the Internet without exposing any information to others.

We can use yum or dnf to install tinc on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install tinc.

Install tinc on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install tinc using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install tinc

Install tinc on CentOS 8 Using yum

How To Uninstall tinc on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the tinc package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove tinc
