How To Install tcl-tclreadline on CentOS 8

tcl-tclreadline is GNU Readline extension for Tcl/Tk

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install tcl-tclreadline on CentOS 8.

What is tcl-tclreadline

The tclreadline package makes the GNU Readline library available for interactive tcl shells. This includes history expansion and file/command completion. Command completion for all tcl/tk commands is provided and command completion for user defined commands can be easily added. Tclreadline can also be used for tcl scripts which want to use a shell like input interface.

We can use yum or dnf to install tcl-tclreadline on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install tcl-tclreadline.

Install tcl-tclreadline on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install tcl-tclreadline using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install tcl-tclreadline

Install tcl-tclreadline on CentOS 8 Using yum

How To Uninstall tcl-tclreadline on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the tcl-tclreadline package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove tcl-tclreadline
