How To Install star on CentOS 8

star is An archiving tool with ACL support

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install star on CentOS 8.

What is star

Star saves many files together into a single tape or disk archive, and can restore individual files from the archive. Star supports ACL.

We can use yum or dnf to install star on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install star.

Install star on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install star using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install star

Install star on CentOS 8 Using yum

After updating yum database, We can install star using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install star

How To Uninstall star on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the star package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove star
