How To Install sha2 on CentOS 8

sha2 is SHA Implementation Library

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install sha2 on CentOS 8.

What is sha2

The library implements the SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 hash algorithms. The interface is similar to the interface to SHA-1 found in the OpenSSL library. sha2 is a simple program that accepts input from either STDIN or reads one or more files specified on the command line, and then generates the specified hash (either SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, or any combination thereof, including all three at once).

We can use yum or dnf to install sha2 on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install sha2.

Install sha2 on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

CentOS Linux 8 - AppStream 43 kB/s | 4.3 kB 00:00
CentOS Linux 8 - BaseOS 65 kB/s | 3.9 kB 00:00

sudo dnf -y install sha2
