In this tutorial we learn how to install samba-winbind on CentOS 8.

What is `samba-winbind`

The samba-winbind package provides the winbind NSS library, and some client tools. Winbind enables Linux to be a full member in Windows domains and to use Windows user and group accounts on Linux.

We can use yum or dnf to install samba-winbind on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install samba-winbind.

Install samba-winbind on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install samba-winbind using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install samba-winbind

How To Uninstall samba-winbind on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the samba-winbind package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove samba-winbind
