How To Install pythia8 on CentOS 8

pythia8 is Pythia Event Generator for High Energy Physics

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install pythia8 on CentOS 8.

What is pythia8

PYTHIA is a program for the generation of high-energy physics events, i.e. for the description of collisions at high energies between elementary particles such as e\u207a, e\u207b, p and p\u0304 in various combinations. It contains theory and models for a number of physics aspects, including hard and soft interactions, parton distributions, initial and final-state parton showers, multiple interactions, fragmentation and decay.

We can use yum or dnf to install pythia8 on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install pythia8.

Install pythia8 on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install pythia8 using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install pythia8

How To Uninstall pythia8 on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the pythia8 package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove pythia8
