How To Install portreserve on CentOS 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install portreserve
on CentOS 8.
What is portreserve
The portreserve program aims to help services with well-known ports that lie in the portmap range. It prevents portmap from a real service’s port by occupying it itself, until the real service tells it to release the port (generally in the init script).
We can use yum
or dnf
to install portreserve
on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install portreserve.
Install portreserve on CentOS 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install portreserve
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install portreserve
Install portreserve on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.

How To Uninstall portreserve on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the portreserve
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove portreserve
