How To Install pigz on CentOS 8

In this tutorial we learn how to install pigz on CentOS 8.

What is pigz

pigz, which stands for parallel implementation of gzip, is a fully functional replacement for gzip that exploits multiple processors and multiple cores to the hilt when compressing data.

We can use yum or dnf to install pigz on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install pigz.

Install pigz on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install pigz using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install pigz

How To Uninstall pigz on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the pigz package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove pigz
