Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install pbzip2 on CentOS 8.

What is pbzip2

PBZIP2 is a parallel implementation of the bzip2 block-sorting file compressor that uses pthreads and achieves near-linear speedup on SMP machines. The output of this version is fully compatible with bzip2 v1.0.2 or newer (ie decompressed with bzip2).

We can use yum or dnf to install pbzip2 on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install pbzip2.

Install pbzip2 on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh
