In this tutorial we learn how to install patchelf on CentOS 8.

What is `patchelf`

PatchELF is a simple utility for modifying an existing ELF executable or library. It can change the dynamic loader (“ELF interpreter”) of an executable and change the RPATH of an executable or library.

We can use yum or dnf to install patchelf on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install patchelf.

Install patchelf on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install patchelf using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install patchelf

How To Uninstall patchelf on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the patchelf package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove patchelf
