In this tutorial we learn how to install par2cmdline on CentOS 8.

What is par2cmdline

par2cmdline is a program for creating and using PAR2 files to detect damage in data files and repair them if necessary. PAR2 files are usually published in binary newsgroups on Usenet; they apply the data-recovery capability concepts of RAID-like systems to the posting and recovery of multi-part archives.

We can use yum or dnf to install par2cmdline on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install par2cmdline.

Install par2cmdline on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install par2cmdline using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install par2cmdline

How To Uninstall par2cmdline on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the par2cmdline package we can use the following command:
