What is mariadb
MariaDB is a community developed branch of MySQL - a multi-user, multi-threaded SQL database server. It is a client/server implementation consisting of a server daemon (mysqld) and many different client programs and libraries. The base package contains the standard MariaDB/MySQL client programs and generic MySQL files.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install mariadb
on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install mariadb.
Install mariadb on CentOS 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install mariadb
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install mariadb
