How To Install lzop on CentOS 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install lzop
on CentOS 8.
What is lzop
lzop is a compression utility which is designed to be a companion to gzip. It is based on the LZO data compression library and its main advantages over gzip are much higher compression and decompression speed at the cost of some compression ratio. The lzop compression utility was designed with the goals of reliability, speed, portability and with reasonable drop-in compatibility to gzip.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install lzop
on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install lzop.
Install lzop on CentOS 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install lzop
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install lzop
Install lzop on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh

using yum

How To Uninstall lzop on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the lzop
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove lzop
