How To Install ipmievd on CentOS 8

ipmievd is IPMI event daemon for sending events to syslog

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ipmievd on CentOS 8.

What is ipmievd

ipmievd is a daemon which will listen for events from the BMC that are being sent to the SEL and also log those messages to syslog.

We can use yum or dnf to install ipmievd on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ipmievd.

Install ipmievd on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install ipmievd using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install ipmievd

Install ipmievd on CentOS 8 Using yum

How To Uninstall ipmievd on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the ipmievd package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove ipmievd
