How To Install hyperscan on CentOS 8

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install hyperscan on CentOS 8.

What is hyperscan

Hyperscan is a high-performance multiple regex matching library. It follows the regular expression syntax of the commonly-used libpcre library, but is a standalone library with its own C API. Hyperscan uses hybrid automata techniques to allow simultaneous matching of large numbers (up to tens of thousands) of regular expressions and for the matching of regular expressions across streams of data. Hyperscan is typically used in a DPI library stack.

We can use yum or dnf to install hyperscan on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install hyperscan.

Install hyperscan on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install hyperscan using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install hyperscan

How To Uninstall hyperscan on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the hyperscan package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove hyperscan
