How To Install HepMC on CentOS 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install HepMC
on CentOS 8.
What is HepMC
The HepMC package is an object oriented event record written in C++ for High Energy Physics Monte Carlo Generators. Many extensions from HEPEVT, the Fortran HEP standard, are supported is unlimited, spin density matrices can be stored with each vertex, flow patterns (such as color) can be stored and traced, integers representing random number generator states can be stored, and an arbitrary number of event weights can be included. Particles and vertices are kept separate in a graph structure, physically similar to a physics event. The added information supports the modularization of event generators. The package has been kept as simple as possible with minimal internal/external dependencies. Event information is accessed by means of iterators supplied with the package.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install HepMC
on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install HepMC.
Install HepMC on CentOS 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
The output should look something like this:
CentOS Linux 8 - AppStream 43 kB/s | 4.3 kB 00:00
CentOS Linux 8 - BaseOS 65 kB/s | 3.9 kB 00:00
CentOS Linux 8 - ContinuousRelease 43 kB/s | 3.0 kB 00:00

Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 8 - x86_64 24 kB/s | 8.5 kB 00:00
Metadata cache created.
After updating yum database, We can install HepMC
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install HepMC

After updating yum database, We can install HepMC
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install HepMC
How To Uninstall HepMC on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the HepMC
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove HepMC
