How To Install glibc-utils on CentOS 8

glibc-utils is Development utilities from GNU C library

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install glibc-utils on CentOS 8.

What is glibc-utils

The glibc-utils package contains memusage, a memory usage profiler, mtrace, a memory leak tracer and xtrace, a function call tracer which can be helpful during program debugging. If unsure if you need this, don’t install this package.

We can use yum or dnf to install glibc-utils on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install glibc-utils.

Install glibc-utils on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install glibc-utils using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install glibc-utils

How To Uninstall glibc-utils on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the glibc-utils package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove glibc-utils
