How To Install fluidsynth on CentOS 8

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install fluidsynth on CentOS 8.

What is fluidsynth

FluidSynth is a real-time software synthesizer based on the SoundFont 2 specifications. It is a “software synthesizer”. FluidSynth can read MIDI events from the MIDI input device and render them to the audio device. It features real-time effect modulation using SoundFont 2.01 modulators, and a built-in command line shell. It can also play MIDI files (note called IIWU Synth).

We can use yum or dnf to install fluidsynth on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install fluidsynth.

Install fluidsynth on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install fluidsynth using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install fluidsynth

Install fluidsynth on CentOS 8 Using yum

How To Uninstall fluidsynth on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the fluidsynth package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove fluidsynth
