How To Install exiv2 on CentOS 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install exiv2
on CentOS 8.
What is exiv2
A command line utility to access image metadata, allowing one to * print the Exif metadata of Jpeg images as summary info, interpreted values, or the plain data for each tag * print the Iptc metadata of Jpeg images * print the Jpeg comment of Jpeg images * set, add and delete Exif and Iptc metadata of Jpeg images * adjust the Exif timestamp (that’s how it all started…) * rename Exif image files according to the Exif timestamp * extract, insert and delete Exif metadata (including thumbnails), Iptc metadata and Jpeg comments
We can use yum
or dnf
to install exiv2
on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install exiv2.
Install exiv2 on CentOS 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install exiv2
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install exiv2
Install exiv2 on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.

How To Uninstall exiv2 on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the exiv2
