How To Install dieharder on CentOS 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install dieharder
on CentOS 8.
What is dieharder
dieharder is a fairly involved random number/uniform deviate generator tester. It can either test any of its many pre-built and linked generators (basically all of those in the Gnu Scientific Library plus some others) or a potentially random data-set in a file. With file input, it can manage either a variety of ASCII-formatted input or a raw binary bit string. It is thus suitable for use in testing both software RNG’s and hardware RNG’s. dieharder does all of its work with a standalone, extensible library, libdieharder. Therefore its tests can be integrated into other programs. dieharder encapsulates following random number tests “Diehard” battery of tests, STS (v1.6) from NIST FIPS, Knuth’s tests, and more. Check the documentation for complete list of the tests and references where possible. It is intended to be the “Swiss army knife of random number testers”, or “the last suite of random number testers you’ll ever wear”.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install dieharder
on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install dieharder.
Install dieharder on CentOS 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
The output should look something like this:
CentOS Linux 8 - AppStream 43 kB/s | 4.3 kB 00:00
CentOS Linux 8 - BaseOS 65 kB/s | 3.9 kB 00:00
CentOS Linux 8 - ContinuousRelease 43 kB/s | 3.0 kB 00:00

After updating yum database, We can install dieharder
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install dieharder
Install dieharder on CentOS 8 Using yum

After updating yum database, We can install dieharder
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install dieharder
How To Uninstall dieharder on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the dieharder
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove dieharder
