How To Install device-mapper on CentOS 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install device-mapper
on CentOS 8.
What is device-mapper
This package contains the supporting userspace utility, dmsetup, for the kernel device-mapper. device-mapper 8 1.02.175 5.el8 x86_64 375 k lvm2-2.03.11-5.el8.src.rpm baseos Device mapper utility http GPLv2 This package contains the supporting userspace utility, dmsetup, for the kernel device-mapper.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install device-mapper
on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install device-mapper.
Install device-mapper on CentOS 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install device-mapper
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install device-mapper
Install device-mapper on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.

How To Uninstall device-mapper on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the device-mapper
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove device-mapper
