How To Install ddrescue on CentOS 8

ddrescue is Data recovery tool trying hard to rescue data in case of read errors

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ddrescue on CentOS 8.

What is ddrescue

GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file or block device (hard disc, cd-rom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file, it tries to fill in the gaps.

We can use yum or dnf to install ddrescue on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ddrescue.

Install ddrescue on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh
