How To Install daq on CentOS 8

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install daq on CentOS 8.

What is daq

Snort 2.9 introduces the DAQ, or Data Acquisition library, for packet I/O. The DAQ replaces direct calls to libpcap functions with an abstraction layer that facilitates operation on a variety of hardware and software interfaces without requiring changes to Snort.

We can use yum or dnf to install daq on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install daq.

Install daq on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install daq using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install daq

Install daq on CentOS 8 Using yum

After updating yum database, We can install daq using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install daq

How To Uninstall daq on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the daq package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove daq
