How To Install crash on CentOS 8

crash is Kernel analysis utility for live systems, netdump, diskdump, kdump, LKCD or mcore dumpfiles

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install crash on CentOS 8.

What is `crash`

The core analysis suite is a self-contained tool that can be used to investigate either live systems, kernel core dumps created from the netdump, diskdump and kdump packages from Red Hat Linux, the mcore kernel patch offered by Mission Critical Linux, or the LKCD kernel patch.

We can use yum or dnf to install crash on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install crash.

Install crash on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install crash using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install crash

How To Uninstall crash on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the crash package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove crash
