How To Install blacs-mpich on CentOS 8

blacs-mpich is BLACS libraries compiled against mpich

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install blacs-mpich on CentOS 8.

What is blacs-mpich

The BLACS (Basic Linear Algebra Communication Subprograms) project is an ongoing investigation whose purpose is to create a linear algebra oriented message passing interface that may be implemented efficiently and uniformly across a large range of distributed memory platforms. The length of time required to implement efficient distributed memory algorithms makes it impractical to rewrite programs for every new parallel machine. The BLACS exist in order to make linear algebra applications both easier to program and more portable. This package contains BLACS libraries compiled with mpich.

We can use yum or dnf to install blacs-mpich on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install blacs-mpich.

Install blacs-mpich on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:
