How To Install assimp on CentOS 8

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install assimp on CentOS 8.

What is assimp

Assimp, the Open Asset Import Library, is a free library to import various well-known 3D model formats into applications. Assimp aims to provide a full asset conversion pipeline for use in game engines and real-time rendering systems, but is not limited to these applications.

We can use yum or dnf to install assimp on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install assimp.

Install assimp on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install assimp using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install assimp

How To Uninstall assimp on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the assimp package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove assimp
