What is ncurses.x86_64

The curses library routines are a terminal-independent method of updating character screens with reasonable optimization. The ncurses (new curses) library is a freely distributable replacement for the discontinued 4.4 BSD classic curses library. This package contains support utilities, including a terminfo compiler tic, a decompiler infocmp, clear, tput, tset, and a termcap conversion tool captoinfo.

We can use yum to install ncurses.x86_64 on Amazon Linux 2. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ncurses.x86_64.

Install ncurses.x86_64 on Amazon Linux 2 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install ncurses.x86_64 using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install ncurses.x86_64
