What is xdelta

xdelta is:

Xdelta is an application program designed to compute changes between files. These changes (deltas) are similar to the output of the “diff” program in that they may be used to store and transmit only the changes between files. However, unlike diff, the output of Xdelta is not expressed in a human-readable format–Xdelta can also apply these deltas to a copy of the original file. Xdelta uses a fast, linear algorithm and performs well on both binary and text files.

There are three methods to install xdelta on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xdelta Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xdelta using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install xdelta

Install xdelta Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install xdelta using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install xdelta

Install xdelta Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install xdelta using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install xdelta

How To Uninstall xdelta on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the xdelta package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xdelta

To uninstall xdelta and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xdelta

To remove xdelta configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xdelta
