Winpdb supports debugging of threads- and curses based applications, namespace modification and embedded debugging. As a remote debugger, it uses (encrypted) network connections to connect to the debuggee (which is running on the same machine, usually).

Winpdb is the graphical, wx-based frontend to rpdb2, which is also included in this package. rpdb2 is text based and able to use screen sessions if there is no x-terminal-emulator available.

Winpdb is up to 20 times faster than pdb.

There are three methods to install winpdb on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install winpdb Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install winpdb using apt-get by running the following command:

After updating apt database, We can install winpdb using apt by running the following command:

Install winpdb Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install winpdb using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install winpdb

How To Uninstall winpdb on Debian 9

To uninstall only the winpdb package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove winpdb

sudo apt-get -y autoremove winpdb

Remove winpdb Configurations and Data

To remove winpdb configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge winpdb
