What is wapiti

wapiti is:

Wapiti allows you to audit the security of your web applications. It performs “black-box” scans, i.e. it does not study the source code of the application but will scan the web pages of the deployed web applications, looking for scripts and forms where it can inject data. Once it gets this list, Wapiti acts like a fuzzer, injecting payloads to see if a script is vulnerable.

Wapiti can detect the following vulnerabilities:

  • file handling errors (local and remote include/require, fopen, readfile…)
  • database injection (PHP/JSP/ASP SQL Injections and XPath Injections)
  • XSS (Cross Site Scripting) injection
  • LDAP injection
  • command execution detection (eval(), system(), passtru()…)
  • CRLF injection (HTTP response splitting, session fixation…)

There are three methods to install wapiti on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install wapiti Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install wapiti using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install wapiti

Install wapiti Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install wapiti using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install wapiti

Install wapiti Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install wapiti using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install wapiti

How To Uninstall wapiti on Debian 9

To uninstall only the wapiti package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove wapiti

Uninstall wapiti And Its Dependencies

To uninstall wapiti and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove wapiti

Remove wapiti Configurations and Data

To remove wapiti configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge wapiti
