What is unbound

unbound is:

Unbound is a recursive-only caching DNS server which can perform DNSSEC validation of results. It implements only a minimal amount of authoritative service to prevent leakage to the root nameservers: forward lookups for localhost, reverse for 127.0.0.1 and ::1, and NXDOMAIN for zones served by AS112. Stub and forward zones are supported.

This package contains the unbound daemon.

Install unbound Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install unbound using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install unbound

How To Uninstall unbound on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the unbound package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove unbound

Uninstall unbound And Its Dependencies

To uninstall unbound and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove unbound

Remove unbound Configurations and Data

To remove unbound configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge unbound

Remove unbound configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
