In this tutorial we learn how to install subiquity on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is subiquity

subiquity is:

SUbiquity is an installer system for servers, embedded devices and desktops or laptops meant to build systems as quickly as possible for users to reach a point where their system is usable.

By default, subiquity provides a “first boot” experience that allows users to do initial system configuration such as adding users and login settings, along with doing basic network configuration. It can also be used to build a new system from the ground up, partitioning and copying a disk image to the storage device selected by the user.

This package provides the installer routines for bootstrapping a system with the Subiquity the server installer UI.

There are three methods to install subiquity on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install subiquity Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install subiquity using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install subiquity

Install subiquity Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install subiquity using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install subiquity

Install subiquity Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install subiquity using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install subiquity

How To Uninstall subiquity on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the subiquity package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove subiquity

Uninstall subiquity And Its Dependencies

To uninstall subiquity and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove subiquity

Remove subiquity Configurations and Data

To remove subiquity configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge subiquity

Remove subiquity configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove subiquity configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge subiquity
