How To Install sssd on Ubuntu 20.04

on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is sssd
sssd is:
Provides a set of daemons to manage access to remote directories and authentication mechanisms. It provides an NSS and PAM interface toward the system and a pluggable backend system to connect to multiple different account sources. It is also the basis to provide client auditing and policy services for projects like FreeIPA.
This package is a metapackage which installs the daemon and existing authentication back ends.

There are three methods to install sssd
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sssd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sssd
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sssd
Install sssd Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sssd
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sssd
Install sssd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sssd
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sssd
How To Uninstall sssd on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the sssd
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sssd
Uninstall sssd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sssd
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sssd
Remove sssd Configurations and Data
To remove sssd
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sssd
Remove sssd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sssd
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge sssd
